CENTRAL ETHIOPIA REGION LAUNCHES ECD AND NUTRITION ROADMAPS TO ACCELERATE INVESTMENT IN CHILDREN Hossana, Ethiopia | 18 June 2026

The Central Ethiopia Regional Government has formally unveiled the Regional Early Childhood Development (ECD) Roadmap and Nutrition Roadmap, which represents a significant step forward in the region’s efforts to enhance outcomes for young children and families.
H.E. Endashaw Tasew (PhD), President of the Central Ethiopia Region, led the high-level event in Hossana Town, which drew 105 participants from the region’s seven zonal administrations, three special woredas, city mayors, sector bureau leaders, and community representatives.
The newly released roadmaps offer a common vision and strategic direction for promoting early childhood development and nutrition through cross-sectoral collaboration. The measures are designed to boost collaboration between health, education, women and children, water and sanitation, and other sectors striving to improve children’s well-being and development.
In his opening address, the Regional President underlined that investing in children in their early years is one of the most effective strategies to foster a healthy, educated, and productive society.

The President urged all participants to incorporate the roadmaps’ priorities into their plans and budgets, improve coordination structures, and ensure accountability for results. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to mobilize resources and maintain momentum for successful execution of the roadmaps. “Together, we can build a better future for every child in our region,” he said.
The launch emphasized the region’s commitment to putting children at the heart of development initiatives and providing an environment in which every child may live, flourish, and reach their full potential.

The African Centre for Early Childhood Development (AfCECD) attended the event and reiterated its commitment to facilitating the implementation of integrated ECD interventions through technical assistance, partnership development, and information exchange.
The ECD and Nutrition Roadmaps represent a new era of coordinated action and strengthened leadership for children and families in Central Ethiopia.
